Ozone (O₃) is an unstable molecule made of three oxygen atoms. The third atom breaks away easily and reacts with other molecules — a process called oxidation. When ozone contacts odor-causing compounds (the volatile molecules released by smoke, mildew, and bacteria), it breaks apart their chemical structure so they stop registering as a smell. That same oxidation also damages the cell walls of the bacteria and mold spores that cause many stubborn odors. Because ozone is unstable, it naturally reverts back into ordinary oxygen (O₂) within a few hours, leaving no chemical residue behind. We always treat an empty vehicle and ventilate it afterward, since concentrated ozone gas is a respiratory irritant.

Hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) works through that same basic chemistry — oxidation — but as a liquid instead of a gas. Sprayed onto carpet, seats, and floor mats, it breaks down into water and oxygen. That breakdown releases reactive oxygen that oxidizes odor-causing organic compounds and disrupts the cell membranes of the bacteria living in the fabric — which is often where the odor is actually coming from, not just the air around it. Because it decomposes into water and oxygen, it doesn't leave a chemical smell of its own.

Used together, but never at the same time. These two treatments cover different ground, but they're applied in sequence, not simultaneously. The hydrogen peroxide spray goes first, worked directly into the fibers and foam where odor-causing bacteria are actually embedded — places a gas can't fully penetrate. The vehicle is then dried before the ozone treatment ever begins. Running concentrated ozone gas while surfaces are still wet with peroxide isn't safe inside a closed cabin, and the combined oxidative exposure can bleach fabric and trim. So we treat the source material first, then treat the air separately once it's safe to do so — which is why this two-step approach handles stubborn odors, like cigarette smoke or a pet accident, more thoroughly than either treatment alone.
